Distillery Background & History

Malfy is produced by Torino Distillati, a family-owned distillery located in Moncalieri, near Turin, Italy.  The Vergnano family, who run the distillery, launched the Malfy gin brand around 2016 with the aim of combining Italian character (coastal, citrus, lightness) with classic gin tradition. 

Producer & Production Philosophy

Malfy positions Originale as a “classic dry style gin with an Italian twist.”  The producer emphasizes purity and restraint: relatively few botanicals, focusing on Italian juniper and clean distillation, rather than flamboyant flavor layering. 

Botanicals & Ingredients

Originale is made with six botanicals (in addition to juniper) in a relatively classic London-Dry style mix: juniper, coriander, angelica root, cassia bark, and citrus (lemon peel) are cited by reviews.  Water comes from the Piedmont region (spring water used in blending). 

Distillation Process

Malfy Originale is distilled in a vacuum stainless steel still (low pressure distillation) to preserve delicate aromatics.  The botanicals are infused and distilled in manner consistent with dry gin rules (no added flavor after distillation). 

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Juniper is front and center, accompanied by herbal green notes, citrus peel and a hint of anise or licorice. 

• Palate: Crisp and dry, juniper leads, with citrus brightness (lemon), herbal undertones, and light spice or earthy undertones. 

• Finish: Dry, clean, with lingering herbal and citrus threads, slight bitterness or astringent note if neat. 

Food & Cocktail Pairing Suggestions

Excellent in classic gin cocktails—Gin & Tonic, Negroni, Martini. Also pairs well with seafood (oysters, shellfish), citrus salads, light cheeses, or herbal Mediterranean dishes. The Italian citrus accent helps it stand out in mixed drinks.

Serving Methods & Ideal Glassware

Serve neat, chilled, or over ice. Use a tulip gin glass, Copa de Balón, or highball with premium tonic. Garnish with lemon peel or a slice of lemon to complement its citrus character.

Storage & Aging Potential

Once bottled, it is stable. Store upright, in a cool, dark place. Gin is not intended for aging—as time passes, aromatics may fade slowly but it won’t improve with bottle age.
