Distillery Background and History

Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1895 in Speyside, Scotland. Nicknamed the “Whisky Capital of the World,” the town of Dufftown is home to several renowned distilleries. Dufftown’s single malt is now marketed under The Singleton label, offering accessible and approachable expressions sourced from its historic copper pot stills  .


Master Distiller and Production Philosophy

While no individual is publicly credited, Diageo’s in-house blending team ensures a consistent style across Singleton expressions. Their philosophy emphasizes natural color, no chill filtration, and a balanced, smooth flavor profile suitable for broad appeal ().


Source of Ingredients (Grain, Water, Yeast)

This is a single malt made from 100 % malted barley sourced regionally. Water is sourced from Jock’s Well in Dufftown, and proprietary yeast strains are maintained in-house to preserve authentic Speyside character  .


Distillation Process

The spirits are double-distilled in traditional copper pot stills—three wash and three spirit stills—operated in a slow batch process to enhance malt sweetness and aromatic balance  .


Maturation & Cask Information

Matured for 12 years in a combination of American and European oak casks. This dual-cask approach introduces honeyed vanilla from bourbon barrels and dried fruit richness from European oak  .


Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted nuts, polished wood, cereal sweetness, and light citrus zest 

Palate: Rich dried fruit (baked apple, dates), brown sugar, coffee/espresso, hazelnut, and subtle oak spice 

Finish: Smooth, medium length, with gentle drying oak, spice, and lingering fruit hints ()

Sealed bottles remain stable for years when stored upright in a cool, dark place. Additional bottle aging won’t significantly alter its profile but will preserve its current balance.
