Winery Background and History

Château Nine Peaks, established in 2008, is located in the Shandong Peninsula of China, an area known for its favorable viticultural conditions. The winery combines traditional European winemaking techniques with modern innovations to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. With a commitment to quality and sustainability, Château Nine Peaks has become a prominent figure in China’s burgeoning wine industry.

Producer and Winemaker

The winemaking team at Château Nine Peaks is led by experienced professionals who bring international expertise to the estate. Their approach emphasizes minimal intervention and careful vineyard management to ensure that each grape variety expresses its full potential. The team’s dedication to excellence has resulted in wines that are both expressive and reflective of their origin.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Situated in the coastal region of Qingdao, the vineyards benefit from a temperate maritime climate with ample sunshine and moderate rainfall. The soils are predominantly sandy loam, providing excellent drainage and promoting deep root development. These conditions contribute to the cultivation of healthy vines and the production of grapes with balanced acidity and concentrated flavors.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The 2019 Reserve Red is a blend of six grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (31.7%), Cabernet Gernischt (19.2%), Petit Verdot (18.1%), Merlot (17.5%), Alibernet (6.9%), and Cabernet Franc (6.6%). Each variety is vinified separately to preserve its unique characteristics. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels for 12 months, enhancing its complexity and structure.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Château Nine Peaks Reserve Red displays a deep red color with purple nuances. The nose is characterized by intense aromas of ripe small berry fruits, cherry, and plum. On the palate, the wine offers a harmonious balance of fruitiness and structure, with notes of dark chocolate and subtle spices. The finish is long and satisfying, showcasing the wine’s elegance and depth.

Food & Wine Pairing

This versatile red wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, roasted lamb, and hearty stews. Its robust flavor profile complements rich sauces and aged cheeses. Additionally, the wine’s balanced acidity and tannins make it an excellent companion to spicy Asian cuisine and barbecued dishes.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve the wine at 16°C to 18°C (61°F to 64°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and balance. Decanting for 30 minutes before serving can help open up its bouquet and enhance its flavors. Using large, tulip-shaped red wine glasses will concentrate the aromas and allow the wine to express its full character.

Storage and Aging Potential

Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity. The 2019 vintage can be enjoyed now or over the next 5 to 7 years. With proper cellaring, it has the potential to develop additional complexity and depth, enhancing the wine’s richness and character.
