Winery Background and History

Las Huertas is a wine label produced by Viña Los Vascos, a historic estate in Chile’s Colchagua Valley. Acquired in 1988 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the estate has undergone significant revitalization, focusing on producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The Rothschild family’s commitment to excellence and tradition is evident in the meticulous vineyard management and winemaking practices employed at Viña Los Vascos.

Producer and Winemaker

Las Huertas Estate Reserve 2019 is crafted under the expertise of the winemaking team at Viña Los Vascos, led by the experienced enologist responsible for overseeing the estate’s wine production. The team’s philosophy centers on expressing the authenticity of the Colchagua Valley terroir, utilizing sustainable viticulture and meticulous vinification processes. Their approach ensures that each wine embodies the balance, complexity, and elegance characteristic of the estate’s offerings.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The vineyards are situated in the Colchagua Valley, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The 2019 vintage experienced a mild winter and cool spring, followed by a hot summer with temperatures reaching 40.6°C. Fortunately, the estate’s proximity to the sea and the influence of cold nights provided the necessary conditions for optimal grape ripening, resulting in wines with remarkable freshness and aromatic intensity.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The grapes for Las Huertas Estate Reserve 2019 were harvested at optimal maturity and underwent traditional vinification methods. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal aromas and freshness. The wine was then aged to enhance its complexity and structure, allowing the integration of flavors and the development of a harmonious profile.

Tasting Notes

Las Huertas Estate Reserve 2019 presents a ruby color with garnet trim. The nose is intense, offering aromas of red fruits such as cherries and plums, accompanied by cassis. Spicy notes of clove and cinnamon are complemented by a background of well-integrated wood and graphite. On the palate, the wine is intense, with a pleasant volume and acidity. It has characterful but elegant tannins that give it presence and vitality. A structured and balanced wine, it is a good representative of a Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs excellently with a variety of dishes, including grilled red meats, lamb, and game. Its robust structure and complex flavors also complement aged cheeses and rich stews. For a vegetarian option, consider pairing it with mushroom-based dishes or lentil casseroles.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its complexity, serve Las Huertas Estate Reserve 2019 at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting for at least 30 minutes before serving is recommended to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full aromatic potential. Use a Bordeaux-style glass to concentrate its aromas and enhance the tasting experience.

Storage and Aging Potential

Las Huertas Estate Reserve 2019 is suitable for aging and can be cellared for up to 5–7 years under proper conditions. Store the wine horizontally in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature and humidity to allow it to develop additional complexity over time.
