La Soufrandiere Pouilly Vinzelles 2020
La Soufrandiere Pouilly Vinzelles 2020
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Volume: 750ml
Winery Background and History: La Soufrandière was established by the Bret Brothers—Marc‑Antoine, Jean‑Guillaume and Jean‑Philippe—after exiting their family’s cooperative in 2000. Based in Vinzelles, Burgundy, they transitioned to certified organic in 2006 and later biodynamics, focusing on expressive Chardonnay from old vines rooted in clay‑limestone terroirs. Their wines showcase minimal intervention and terroir purity.
Producer and Wine Maker: The three Bret siblings personally manage vineyard sourcing, harvest, and vinification. Fermentation proceeds with ambient yeasts and aging in older barrels or tank with minimal sulphur additions to preserve freshness and minerality.
Vineyards and Micro Climate: Grapes come from vineyards in Vinzelles, planted on argilo-calcaire soils of mid‑slope exposure in the Mâconnais. Climates feature warm, sunny days and cooler nights, yielding wines with intensity balanced by crisp acidity.
Vinification & Aging Methods: One-third ferments in oak barrels, two-thirds in stainless steel tank. After fermentation, wines rest on lees and undergo malolactic fermentation. Aging and lees stirring provide texture, while sulfur additions remain minimal.
Tasting Notes: Offers aromas of beeswax, dried flowers and verbena. The palate shows slight honeyed entry, counteracted by crisp acidity and floral hints leading to a clean, mineral finish.
Food & Wine Pairing: Excellent with shellfish, white fish, grilled poultry, goat cheeses, and dishes with citrus or herb‑centric sauces.
Service Methods and Temperatures: Serve chilled at 11–13 °C in white Burgundy glass. No decanting needed—best consumed fresh to preserve aromatics.
Storage and Aging Potential: Best drinking window 2023–2030 under cellaring conditions of 12–14 °C and 70 % humidity. With age, the wine develops richer texture and aromatic complexity.
Grape Varietals & percentage used: Chardonnay 100 % — the only permitted grape in the Pouilly‑Vinzelles AOC.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume): Approximately 14 %, consistent with typical Bret Brothers bottlings from this appellation.
