Winery Background and History

Henri Giraud is a historic, family-owned Champagne estate in Aÿ founded in the 17th century. Known for biodynamic viticulture, they uniquely age wines in Argonne oak barrels and maintain a solera-style perpetual reserve dating back to 1990  .

Producer and Wine Maker

Crafted under Claude Giraud and cellar-master Sébastien Le Golvet (and Frédéric Mestelan), the blend consists of ~80 % Pinot Noir and 20 % Chardonnay. About two-thirds of the base wine is the 2019 vintage, with one-third from solera reserve  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes hail exclusively from southeast-facing Aÿ Grand Cru vineyards on deep chalk soils. A cool continental climate (influenced by the Marne River) and biodynamic farming foster slow ripening and vibrancy  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

Wines spend 12 months fermenting in Argonne oak barrels (50 % new), followed by 4–6 years ageing en tirage on lees. Dosage is ~5 g/L (Brut)  .

Tasting Notes

Pale gold, with radiant, enveloping texture. Aromas include lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, tangerine peel, mint, dried flowers, pastry, walnut, apricot, and chalky minerality. The palate is textured, creamy, saline, and long  .

Food & Wine Pairing

Ideal with shellfish (e.g., crab, oysters, lobster), creamy seafood dishes, ebi fry, sushi, and aged cheeses ().

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve well-chilled at 8–10 °C in tulip or quality white-wine glasses. No decanting necessary  .

Storage and Aging Potential

Ready from 2024, with optimal drinking window through 2032, and longevity possible through 2044 under ideal cellaring (12–14 °C, stable humidity)  .
