Distillery Background and History
Glenmorangie Distillery, founded in 1843 in Tain, Ross‑shire, is known for its 26-ft copper stills—the tallest in Scotland—and pioneering use of diverse wood finishes. Now owned by LVMH, it balances Highland heritage with innovation and has become Scotland’s most awarded distillery .
Master Distiller and Production Philosophy
Under Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, Glenmorangie focuses on marrying traditional spirit with carefully selected casks. Quinta Ruban reflects this philosophy by finishing in Portuguese ruby port casks to enhance fruit, chocolate, and spice nuances .
Source of Ingredients (Grain, Water, Yeast)
Crafted entirely from 100 % Highland-grown malted barley, using soft, mineral-rich water from the Tarlogie Springs. Unique yeast strains foster the distillery’s signature fruity‑floral Highland character .
Distillation Process
Double-distilled in tall copper pot stills by the “Sixteen Men of Tain.” These tall stills promote high reflux, yielding a light, elegant, and refined spirit .
Maturation & Cask Information
Aged initially for about 10 years in American white oak (ex-bourbon) casks, then finished for an additional 4 years in ruby port pipes from Portugal—imparting rich color, berry sweetness, and velvety texture .
