Winery Background and History

Domaine Florent Garaudet is a family-owned estate located in Monthélie, within Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune region. Established in 2008 by Florent Garaudet, a fifth-generation winemaker, the domaine spans approximately 11.5 hectares, encompassing appellations such as Bourgogne, Meursault, Monthélie, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, and Volnay. Florent combines traditional practices with modern techniques, emphasizing sustainable viticulture to produce wines that authentically express the terroir of each vineyard.

Florent Garaudet leads the domaine, bringing a wealth of experience from his studies in viticulture in Beaune and practical experience in regions like Languedoc and Pomerol. His philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard’s natural characteristics to shine through in the wines. Vineyards and Microclimate

The “Le Ronceret” Premier Cru vineyard is located on the far eastern side of the Volnay appellation, on the village’s lower hillside. Florent’s plot covers 0.19 hectares and was planted in 1987. The soils are shallow clay-limestone loam with a rocky surface over limestone bedrock, situated at an elevation of 240 meters with southeast exposure. This microclimate fosters the development of Pinot Noir grapes with balanced ripeness and acidity, contributing to the wine’s elegance and complexity.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are harvested by hand and completely destemmed before a 20-day maceration, during which punching of the cap is performed once or twice daily. After a gentle press, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks and is later racked to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturation. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, with 50% new oak, to enhance complexity without overshadowing the varietal character.
