Winery Background and History
Created by the Cattier family and relaunched in 2006, Armand de Brignac—aka “Ace of Spades”—is a luxury Champagne now co-owned by Jay-Z and LVMH. It merges artisanal tradition with modern flair: sourced from family-owned vineyards in Montagne de Reims and select Grand and Premier Cru sites, hand-pressed and bottled in distinctive metallic cases, then finished with pewter labels and polished wood gift boxes .
Producer and Wine Maker
Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier (11th/12th generations) oversee production with a dedicated cellar team. They craft this multi-vintage blend by selecting only the first-press must, fermenting a portion in French oak, and aging the cuvée on lees for around six years before dosage, delivering both power and finesse .
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Grapes come from top Champagne terroirs across Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne. The chalk-rich soils and cool maritime climate with broad diurnal swings promote bright acidity, precise minerality, and full phenolic expression ideal for barrel aging .
Vinification & Aging Methods
A blend of three vintages (typically 2009, 2010 & 2012) from the first cuvée press is used. Around 10% of the blend undergoes oak fermentation; the rest is stainless steel. After blending, the Champagne rests on lees for about three years in bottle and includes ~9 g/L dosage for balance ().
Tasting Notes
Medium-straw gold with refined, persistent bubbles. Aromas of white flowers, brioche, crystallized citrus, stone fruit, and honeyed notes. The palate is creamy and vibrant, with flavors of peach, apricot, cherry, lemon, vanilla, and toast, across a long, silky finish .
Food & Wine Pairing
Outstanding as an aperitif or with shellfish, sushi, white meats, oily fish, risotto, game, or white-fish dishes. Its texture and depth also pair beautifully with richer seafood and moderate spice .
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled 8–10 °C in wide tulip or white-wine glasses to enhance aromatics and texture. No decanting needed; a gentle swirl is recommended.
Storage and Aging Potential
When stored at 9–12 °C (70–80% humidity, dark), the Brut Gold will evolve over 10–15 years, gaining tertiary notes of honey, nuts, and toast, while maintaining its core freshness and structure ().
Grape Varietals & percentage used
40 % Pinot Noir, 40 % Chardonnay, 20 % Pinot Meunier .
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
12.5 % ABV .
