Absolut Extrakt Vodka

Distillery Background and History

Absolut Extrakt is part of Absolut’s “Collaborations” series, launched in 2017. It draws on the Swedish tradition of snaps—spirits infused with herbs or botanicals meant for sipping or shots. The name “Extrakt” evokes the concentrated flavour nature of tinctures or extracts, aligning with Absolut’s roots in Åhus, Sweden. 

Master Distiller and Production Philosophy

Absolut does not highlight a specific master distiller for this variant. The philosophy behind Extrakt is to present a bold, spiced, and herb-driven shot spirit rather than a light neutral vodka. It embraces character via botanical infusion while preserving a smooth, clean base. 

Source of Ingredients (Grain, Water, Yeast)

The base is the same high-quality winter wheat spirit Absolut uses in its core vodkas. Water is sourced from local aquifers around Åhus. The yeast strains are proprietary to Absolut’s operations. Extrakt is not a separate distillate—the botanicals (notably green cardamom) are infused into the vodka. 

Distillation Process

Absolut uses continuous distillation for its base spirits. In the case of Extrakt, the botanical infusion is applied post-distillation rather than altering the distillation process. 

Maturation & Cask Information

As a flavored spirit, Absolut Extrakt is not matured in casks. It is bottled soon after blending and infusion. 

Tasting Notes

Nose: Pronounced green cardamom aroma, warm spice, herbal hints. 

Palate: Juicy, well-balanced spice, warming herbal profile with cardamom as the signature. 

Finish: Smooth, spicy, lingering cardamom warmth. 

Food Pairing Suggestions

Best paired with rich cheeses, cured meats, spiced nuts, or as a digestif post-meal. Because of its warm spice profile, it can also complement desserts with nutmeg, cinnamon, or cardamom.

Serving Suggestions and Ideal Glassware

Serve chilled, ideally as a shot. Use a small shot glass. The concept of Extrakt is conceived for the “shots moment”—a quick, flavorful sip. 

Storage and Aging Potential

Once bottled, Extrakt is stable. Store upright, in a cool dark place. It is not intended for further aging in bottle.
