Vineyards and Micro Climate

The 2018 Pinot Noir is sourced from the Dechant and Käferberg vineyards in Kamptal, characterized by calcareous soils and a continental climate with warm days and cool nights. These conditions contribute to the development of complex aromas and balanced acidity in the grapes. The vineyards are managed organically, emphasizing biodiversity and sustainability.


Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes were hand-harvested in September 2018 and underwent a traditional vinification process, including one and a half weeks of maceration. The wine was then matured in 2 to 3-year-old 300-liter Austrian oak barrels, allowing for subtle oak integration and the development of complexity without overpowering the varietal character.


Tasting Notes

The 2018 Pinot Noir opens with smoky, leafy spice aromas, followed by notes of wild berries, plums, cherries, and floral tones. On the palate, it is pleasantly dry, with soft red fruit flavors, supporting acidity, youthful grip, and a long, spicy finish. The wine exhibits a medium crimson garnet color with ochre reflections and a broad, bright rim. 


Food & Wine Pairing

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with grilled meats, including game, duck, and goose, as well as roast or braised meats and fresh cheeses. Its balanced structure and nuanced flavors complement a variety of dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience.


Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve the wine at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and flavor depth. Decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes in the glass can enhance its expressive qualities. Use Burgundy-style glasses to concentrate the aromas and enhance the tasting experience.


Storage and Aging Potential

Stored under optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with consistent humidity—the 2018 Pinot Noir has the potential to age gracefully for 8–10 years. Over time, it will develop additional complexity, with tertiary notes of earth, mushroom, and dried fruit emerging. Regular monitoring is advised to enjoy the wine at its peak maturity.
