Winery Background and History
Bottega Pio Cesare, founded in 1881 in Alba, Piedmont, blends venerable Piedmontese tradition with refined French techniques. Esteemed for Barolo and Barbaresco, the estate also crafted the Langhe Nebbiolo as a more youthful, accessible expression of Nebbiolo, showcasing the region’s elegance and Pio Cesare’s commitment to quality across styles
Producer and Wine Maker
This Langhe Nebbiolo was produced by Pio Cesare’s longstanding winemaking team, who uphold the estate’s philosophy of minimal intervention, precision sourcing, and meticulous craftsmanship. Their approach includes clean stainless steel vinification and balanced oak influence to ensure purity of fruit and regional expression, while maintaining the structure and finesse emblematic of Piedmont
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The grapes come from family-owned vineyards in La Morra, Serralunga d’Alba, Diano d’Alba, and other Langhe sites, located at moderate altitudes with calcareous-clay soils and distinct diurnal temperature shifts. These conditions favor slow ripening, preserving acidity, delicate aromatics, and Nebbiolo’s classic structure—yielding a wine that is both expressive and refined
Vinification & Aging Methods
The grapes undergo temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation with about 20 days of skin contact. Aging lasts approximately 30 months in French oak—20% in small barriques and 80% in large casks (“botti”)—imparting texture and depth while preserving Nebbiolo’s floral lift and structural clarity
Tasting Notes
The wine presents intense ripe berry fruit, delicate tannins, and a refined fragrance. Aromas include strawberries, raspberries, cedar, and light spice. The palate is rich yet elegant, with fine-grained tannins and a long, bright finish. The texture is supple with aromatic lift and structural balance tapering into a graceful close
Food & Wine Pairing
Pair with roasted red meats, pasta with ragù, game terrines, aged cheeses, or earthy stews. Its savory character, fine tannins, and balance make it ideal for dishes rooted in Piedmontese cuisine
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve at around 16–18 °C (61–64 °F) in a medium to large red wine glass. Decanting for 15–20 minutes helps release aromatics and soften the structure, enhancing the wine’s elegance
Storage and Aging Potential
Best enjoyed between 2025 and 2030. With proper cellaring, the wine may age gracefully for up to 8 years, during which time tannins integrate and nuanced tertiary notes—like dried herbs or forest floor—emerge
