Distillery Background and History
Monkey 47 is a premium gin brand produced in the Black Forest region of Germany. Its origin story references Wing Commander Montgomery “Monty” Collins, who in the mid-20th century experimented with local botanicals in the Black Forest; in 2006 the modern Monkey 47 was launched, celebrating this botanical tradition and the forest’s diversity.
Producer & Production Philosophy
Monkey 47 Barrel Cut is a limited edition, barrel-aged variant of the core Monkey 47 gin. The production team takes the standard 47-botanical recipe and then applies further maturation in small casks to deepen complexity, rather than altering the botanical blend drastically. The philosophy is to marry botanical freshness with oak, fruit, and wood spice influences.
Botanicals & Botanical Philosophy
The base still uses the 47 botanicals typical to Monkey 47 (including lingonberries, spruce shoots, citrus peels, herbs, etc.). For Barrel Cut, additional character is layered via the cask aging rather than new botanicals.
Distillation & After Treatment
After distillation (maceration + vapor infusion), the resulting gin is boarded into mulberry wood barrels (small casks) and aged for approximately 180 days. The barrels are lightly toasted, which allows the spirit to draw in wood, dried fruit, and gentle sweetness.

Once bottled, Monkey 47 Barrel Cut is stable. Store upright, in a cool, dark place. Because it is already aged in barrel, further bottle aging offers minimal evolution.
