Crafted by the winery’s in-house team, Próximo is positioned as Marqués de Riscal’s approachable entry-level Rioja—showcasing fresh red fruit with polished tannins, made from traditional varieties grown in estate or nearby vineyards. 

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Sourced from Rioja DOCa vineyards, the wine benefits from the continental climate of the region—warm days and cool nights—and limestone-influenced soils providing freshness and aromatic lift. 

Vinification & Aging Methods

Próximo is made via gentle vinification: grapes are hand-harvested, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, followed by time on fine lees to enhance texture before bottling. 

Tasting Notes

Deep, clear dark cherry-red with violet hues. The nose shows medium intensity with clean aromas of strawberries and red cherries. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with ripe fruit flavors and a subtle toasted oak finish.  Additional profiles highlight notes of guava, honeydew melon, pineapple, mango, blackberry, raspberry, and leather—round and smooth with moderate acidity and a pleasing mineral finish. 

Food & Wine Pairing

Excellent with veal dishes, hearty chickpea curry, and vegetable stews with pesto. Also pairs well with grilled lamb. 

Service Methods and Temperatures

Best served at 15–18 °C, in a red wine glass to bring out aromatic clarity and texture. 

Storage and Aging Potential

Enjoy now, ideally consumed within 3 years of vintage—small-scale aging may enhance subtle texture.
