Distillery Background and History
Malfy is produced by Torino Distillati, a family distillery based in Moncalieri, Italy. The Vergnano family has distilled spirits in the Piedmont region for generations. Malfy Gin was launched circa 2016, bringing an Italian twist to gin with an emphasis on citrus and local botanicals.
Producer & Production Philosophy
Malfy strives for a balance of Italian character and classic gin style. Con Limone is intended to evoke the Amalfi Coast with sunripened lemons, while preserving enough juniper and botanical backbone to remain a true gin (not merely a citrus liqueur).
Botanicals & Key Ingredients
Con Limone uses botanicals including Italian juniper and a key citrus component of Amalfi lemons / Italian lemons. Other supporting botanicals (common in gin reviews) include coriander, cassia, grapefruit peel, orange peel, licorice, etc.
Distillation Process
Malfy Con Limone is distilled in a vacuum still (low pressure) to preserve delicate citrus aromatics. The lemons (peel and zest) are added to the botanical mix before or during distillation rather than as a post-distillation infusion.
Tasting Notes
-
Nose: Bright and zesty lemon peel, a vivid citrus lift with juniper in the background.
-
Palate: A strong lemon character up front (“lemon zing”), balanced by juniper and herbal spice. Some reviewers detect bitter citrus rind and hints of grapefruit/orange undercurrents.
-
Finish: Medium to long, clean, citrus linger with botanical complexity emerging behind the lemon.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pairs beautifully with seafood (oysters, grilled fish), shellfish, fresh salads with citrus dressings, goat cheese, or light Mediterranean fare. Its citrus focus also suits desserts with lemon or berries.
Serving Methods and Ideal Glassware
Serve neat chilled, over ice, or as a Gin & Tonic with a slice or twist of lemon to reinforce its citrus character. Use a tulip glass, gin balloon (Copa de Balón), or highball glass.
Storage and Aging Potential
Once bottled, it is stable. Store upright in a cool, dark place. Gin is not meant for extended aging; aromas may fade over time but it won’t improve with bottle age.
