Winery Background and History

G.H. Mumm & Cie, established in 1827 in Reims, France, is a storied Champagne house known for its bold, modern style. The brand’s signature “Cordon Rouge” red sash, introduced in 1876, symbolizes excellence and has become iconic across the wine world.  Over time, Mumm’s reputation has been built on blending mastery and wide vineyard sourcing across Champagne’s key crus. 


Producer and Winemaker

The Champagne is created under the oversight of Mumm’s cellar team and blending committee, led by the Chef de Caves. For Cordon Rouge Rosé, the team emphasizes structure, freshness, and expressing Pinot Noir intensity while retaining elegance. 


Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes are drawn from many crus across Champagne, with strong contributions from Pinot Noir vineyards in Montagne de Reims and Aube, combined with Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs and Meunier from Marne valleys.  The regional climate—cool nights, moderate days, sufficient rainfall—and chalky soils support good acidity, aromatic development, and minerality.


Vinification & Aging Methods

Cordon Rouge Rosé is a non-vintage brut rosé. Its blend is approximately 60 % Pinot Noir, 22 % Chardonnay, 18 % Pinot Meunier.  A portion of red wine is added to bring depth, red fruit structure, and complexity.  The wine is aged on its lees for ~20+ months in Mumm’s cellars before disgorgement. 


Tasting Notes

Nose: Intense red and black berries (strawberry, currant), candied berry notes, sweet spice, and delicate brioche. 

Palate: Energetic, bright fruit character — summer berries, citrus lift — with structure from Pinot Noir, balanced by fine bubbles and freshness. 

Finish: Long, expressive, with lingering red fruit, subtle spice, and elegant texture. 


Food & Wine Pairing

Excellent with grilled salmon, tuna tataki, duck breast with berry sauce, shellfish, soft cheeses, red fruit desserts, or dishes with gentle spice. Its structure handles both richness and freshness.


Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled at 8–10 °C. Use a tulip flute or white-wine balloon glass that allows aromatic lift while preserving mousse. Avoid excessive chilling that could mute its nuances.


Storage and Aging Potential

Store horizontally in a cool, dark cellar (≈ 10–12 °C). As a NV rosé meant for early drinking, best enjoyed within 5–7 years; in good conditions it may evolve further but retains much of its vivid fruit character early.
