Winery Background and History
Frescobaldi’s Nipozzano Riserva hails from the historic Castello di Nipozzano estate—an emblematic property in Chianti Rufina. The Frescobaldi family’s storied heritage in winemaking extends across centuries, and this Riserva exemplifies the noble fusion of tradition and Tuscan terroir expression.
Producer and Winemaker
Created by Frescobaldi’s expert oenological team, the 2022 vintage reflects their meticulous craftsmanship—from grape selection to vineyard sourcing across the estate’s varied vineyards.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Grapes are grown at 250–400 m elevation in the Chianti Rufina region—notably in schist-rich, well-drained hillside soils with southeast to southwest exposure. Crisp air and breezes contribute to freshness and complexity in the fruit.
Vinification & Aging Methods
The 2022 grapes underwent spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by maceration and malolactic fermentation in steel. Afterward, the wine aged for several months in barriques and received additional bottle aging for balance and refinement.
Tasting Notes
This Riserva pours a vibrant, intense ruby red. The nose presents layered aromas of red and black berries, citrus freshness, violet and rose florals, followed by gentle spice. On the palate: balanced and harmonious with fruit-driven minerality, dense yet silky tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
An excellent match with rich, savory dishes—roasted meats, lamb chops, ragù pasta, aged cheeses, and grilled game complement its balance and freshness beautifully.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve at 16–18 °C in a medium-to-large red wine glass. A decanting time of approximately 1 hour is recommended to allow the wine to open gracefully.
Storage and Aging Potential
Enjoyable now, this wine is built to evolve over 5–10 years, gradually revealing more complexity and depth with time.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
Primarily 100% Sangiovese, with occasional inclusion of minor complementary varieties depending on vintage blending.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
Approximately 13.5%.
