Winery Background and History

Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri in Montalcino, Casanova di Neri is now celebrated for its modern, elegant Brunellos. Tenuta Nuova is their flagship expression—originating from a previously uncultivated site—and embodies pioneering vision, meticulous terroir study, and a legacy of refined Sangiovese.

Producer and Wine Maker

Currently run by the Neri family, the estate is renowned for exacting vineyard practices—manual and optical sorting, spontaneous fermentation, and extended oak aging. Tenuta Nuova showcases their house style: powerful yet balanced, with depth and aromatic purity.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Tenuta Nuova vineyard was developed in a new, unplanted site chosen after careful study of microclimates, clonal selections, and soil structure. It benefits from a favorable Montalcino microclimate that enhances ripeness and structure.

Vinification & Aging Methods

After manual and optical selection, grapes ferment spontaneously in conical steel vats with extended maceration (~25 days). Aging lasts approximately 30 months in tonneaux (small oak barrels), followed by 18 months in bottle before release.

Tasting notes

Powerful and rich, the wine reveals dried blackberry, ink, licorice, star anise, with toasted spice—dark, complex, and structured.

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs excellently with classic Tuscan fare: grilled steak, roasted meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. Its balance of power and elegance makes it versatile and memorable.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 16–17 °C in a large Bordeaux glass. A decant of at least 1 hour is recommended to allow aromatic and structural layers to evolve.

Storage and Aging Potential

Built to age gracefully—best from 2026 to 2050. The 2019 vintage is already showing depth but promises decades of evolution.

Grape Varietals & percentage used

100% Sangiovese (Brunello clone), as mandated by DOCG regulations.

ABV (Alcohol by Volume)

Approximately 15% ABV.
