Winery Background and History
Casanova di Neri, founded in Montalcino in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, has gained recognition for its elegant Brunellos and signature single-vineyard cuvées. Irrosso is one of the estate’s most recent creations—a more approachable, youthful red embracing Tuscan terroir with stylistic flair rooted in the estate’s tradition.
Producer and Winemaker
Today managed by Giovanni’s sons, Casanova di Neri employs modern vineyard practices including manual and optical sorting, and spontaneous fermentation. Irrosso reflects the estate’s stylistic balance—lower age to drink now, yet crafted with precision and character.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The wine is produced from relatively young Sangiovese vines in the Fiesole vineyard near the winery, complemented by small additions of Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) sourced from southern Montalcino estate vineyards. The elevation and Mediterranean climate impart brightness and freshness.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Irrosso undergoes manual sorting, destemming, spontaneous fermentation in steel vats, and aging in oak for approximately 12 months. It’s designed for earlier accessibility while retaining depth.
Tasting notes
This “Super Tuscan” blend offers lush aromas of ripe red berries, cherry, floral hints, and subtle spice. On the palate it’s lively, medium-bodied with smooth tannins, bright acidity, and a fresh, engaging finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
A versatile partner to everyday fare—perfect with pasta, grilled meats, light cheeses, pizzas, and grilled game. Its accessible yet structured style makes it a delightful table wine.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve at approximately 16–17 °C in a medium to large red wine glass. A brief decant is optional, though not essential due to its approachable nature.
Storage and Aging Potential
Enjoy now through 2030. Irrosso is crafted for early drinkability but can evolve with subtle complexity over the next several years.
