Winery Background and History
Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron and brought to prominence by Madame Clicquot—who pioneered vintage bottling and riddling—the house is one of Champagne’s icons. She also created the first known blended rosé Champagne in 1818. Today, Veuve Clicquot continues this legacy, marrying heritage and innovation in its NV Rosé cuvée.
Producer and Wine Maker
Crafted under the supervision of the Cellar Master and a tasting committee, the NV Rosé blends base wines with up to 45% reserve wines and approximately 12% still red wine from the Bouzy vineyard. The team’s objective is a consistently fresh yet structured rosé Champagne. ()
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Fruit is sourced from 50–60 crus across Champagne. The typical blend includes 44–48% Pinot Noir, 25–29% Chardonnay, and 13–18% Meunier. Grapes grow in chalk-rich soils under a cool maritime climate with distinct day–night temperature variations, supporting acidity and aromatics.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Base wines are fermented in temperature-controlled tanks. About 12% of the blend is red wine from Bouzy, and up to 45% comprises reserve wines. After blending, the wine ages at least three years on lees before disgorgement, finished with ~9 g/L dosage.
Tasting notes
The color is a luminous pale salmon with fine bubbles. Aromas feature wild strawberry, mandarin peel, biscuit, pastry cream, grapefruit zest, candied ginger, and toast. The palate is lacy and minerally, layered with red berry fruit, creamy brioche, and a long elegant finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
Excellent with shellfish (oysters, sushi, sashimi), grilled fish, prosciutto, smoked salmon, light game, and cured meats. Its acidity and fruit notes harmonize with savory and umami-rich dishes. ()
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 8–10 °C in a tulip- or white-wine glass to preserve aromatic nuance and mousse. No decanting required; a gentle swirl enhances aromatics.
Storage and Aging Potential
Best consumed within 3 years of release. Proper storage at 9–12 °C, stable humidity, and darkness may preserve its freshness for up to 3 years.
