Winery Background and History

Twinwoods Estate, founded in 2005 by winemaker Aldo Bratovic and the Jebsen family, is located in the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River in Western Australia. Despite its relatively young age, the estate has earned recognition for producing terroir-driven wines that reflect Old World elegance and New World vibrancy. Through precise viticulture, small-lot winemaking, and focused attention on regional expression, Twinwoods has established itself as a rising star in Margaret River’s wine landscape  .

Producer and Wine Maker

The Twinwoods winemaking team, led by Aldo Bratovic, oversees production of this Chardonnay. Their philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, careful selection, and expressive winemaking. The fruit is sourced from vineyards ideally suited for Chardonnay, with the team aiming to produce wines that balance regional freshness with textural richness and restrained oak influence  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Chardonnay grapes are grown in a cooler patch of vineyards located about 30 km south of the estate, in a part of Margaret River better suited for the variety. The Mendoza clone is planted here, known for producing complex flavor profiles. The cooler maritime climate, along with well-draining soils, supports vibrant fruit acidity and depth  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

Fermentation and aging occur in French oak Château Ferré barriques, with aging lasting 15 to 18 months and multiple rackings. The proportion of new oak varies from about 45% to 100%, depending on the vintage’s structure. These methods provide creamy texture, depth, and controlled oak integration while highlighting regional freshness  .

Tasting Notes

While specific tasting notes for the 2024 vintage are not publicly available, the nearby 2023 vintage was described as a racy yet beautifully balanced Chardonnay with robust French oak (50% new), a lovely depth of fruit, and refined structure  . Based on this style, the 2024 likely offers expressive stone fruit, citrus, and subtle spice with a clean, focused finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This style of Chardonnay pairs well with dishes that complement both its fruit brightness and oak complexity. Ideal matches include grilled fish, creamy poultry dishes, shellfish in a lightly spiced or buttery sauce, and soft or semi-hard cheeses. The balance of freshness and texture makes it versatile across lighter and richer fare.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled between 10–12 °C in a medium-sized white wine glass. This temperature range preserves aromatic lift and balances refreshment with textural richness. No need to decant; allow the wine to warm slightly in the glass to reveal its layered nuances.

Storage and Aging Potential

Best appreciated within 2–4 years of release to enjoy its fruit-forward character balanced by oak integration. Properly cellared in cool, dark, stable conditions, it may continue to develop complexity for a few years, although it is not designed for long-term aging due to its vibrant style.
