Winery Background and History

Terrazas de los Andes was founded in 1996 by Moët & Hennessy in Mendoza’s Luján de Cuyo, restoring an 1898 winery. It established Argentina’s first high-altitude vineyards on terraces 980–1 250 m above sea level. Using precision viticulture—soil mapping and conductivity surveys—the estate produces Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. It’s known for blending French winemaking sophistication with Andean mountain expression, emphasizing sustainability and community engagement.

Producer and Winemaker

The wine is crafted by Terrazas de los Andes’ in-house winemaking team, who apply classical Bordeaux techniques adapted to Andean terroir. Led by Estate Director Lucas Löwi, they select fruit from eight estate vineyards and over 100 parcels, balancing scientific analysis with artisanal craftsmanship. This fusion ensures freshness, structure, and site-specific character.

Vineyards and Micro‑climate

Sourced from high-altitude plots (1 070–1 650 m) across Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, the Malbec benefits from cool nights, warm days, and glacial-irrigated soils. The predominantly alluvial terraces deliver vibrant acidity, aromatic complexity, and purity. The vineyards are transitioning to organic farming, enhancing terroir expression.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are carefully hand-picked at optimal ripeness. Fermentation is gentle with 15–20 days of maceration to extract color and tannins while preserving finesse. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak—some new, some up to fourth use—with a portion kept in tank to maintain fruit brightness.

Tasting Notes

Displays intense black and red fruit (blackberry, plum, strawberry) and violet, along with mountain spice. On the palate it’s vibrant, layered, and fresh, with polished tannins, hints of black pepper, chocolate, and a mineral undercurrent, culminating in an elegant and refined finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Reserva Malbec complements grilled or stewed beef, pork, lamb, and rich pasta dishes with tomato sauce. It also pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, nutty desserts, and ember-roasted vegetables—a versatile partner to savory and hearty fare.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 14 °C (57 °F). Decant for 30 minutes to enhance aromas and soften tannins. Use a large red wine glass to allow the bouquet to fully develop. ()

Storage and Aging Potential

This wine can be enjoyed now through 2030. When cellared properly at ~15 °C with stable humidity, it may maintain its structure and freshness up to 2032. ()
