Winery Background and History

Founded in 1996 by Moët & Hennessy on the site of an 1898 winery in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, Terrazas de los Andes pioneered precision viticulture in the region. With terraces at elevations between 980 m and 1 250 m, the estate cultivates varieties like Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Since inception, it has championed high-altitude mountain terroir, using soil mapping, electrical conductivity, and sustainable practices. As part of the broader Moët & Chandon-Chandon family, the estate balances French winemaking traditions with Andean mountain expression.

Producer and Winemaker

The wine is produced under the Terrazas de los Andes banner, leveraging the expertise of their winemaking team trained in Bordeaux techniques. The producer blends traditional craftsmanship with scientific vineyard management, leading efforts in organic transition. The winemaker oversees careful plot selection from over 25 vineyard sites, ensuring the final Reserva reflects regional balance and depth. ()

Vineyards and Micro‑climate

Grapes are sourced from multiple mountain vineyard plots in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, notably the Perdriel terraces between 980 m and 1 250 m elevation. The combination of cool nights, warm days, and slow-draining alluvial soils contribute to vibrant acidity, ripe fruit and complex aromatics. The estate is currently transitioning to organic practices across the vineyards.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Hand-harvested grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, preserving fresh fruit character. The wine is matured for 12–14 months in French oak barrels (roughly one-third new), then aged further in bottle before release to integrate tannins and harmonize flavors. ()

Tasting Notes

Aromas and flavors highlight a mix of red and black fruits such as redcurrant, blueberry, and blackcurrant, along with herbal notes of thyme, rosemary, and cardamom. Subtle hazelnut cream, vanilla, and caramel emerge on the palate, supported by balanced acidity, silky tannins, and a vibrant yet full-bodied mouthfeel.

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs beautifully with game meats like venison, wild boar, and rabbit, as well as grilled lamb and red meats. Its richness also complements ember-roasted vegetables, hearty stews, and dishes enhanced by demi-glace sauces—ideal for intense and savory flavors.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 14 °C (57 °F) with decanting for 30–60 minutes to open up aromatics and soften tannins. Use a large Bordeaux-style glass to allow the wine’s full aroma spectrum to develop.

Storage and Aging Potential

Drink from 2025 to 2030 for optimal flavor evolution, with potential to age successfully through 2032 if cellared in stable conditions around 15 °C with moderate humidity. ()
