Winery Background and History

Bodega Numanthia, located in Toro, Spain, is owned by LVMH since 2008 and renowned for its premium expression of the Tinta de Toro grape. Tempranillo vines in the Teso de los Carriles vineyard, many over 100 years old and ungrafted, contribute profound intensity and mineral depth, solidifying Toro’s place in the global fine-wine stage  .

Producer and Wine Maker

Crafted under the watch of the estate’s winemakers, Termanthia undergoes small-lot vinification with extended maceration and French oak aging. Each vintage is closely monitored to deliver a precise balance of power, finesse, and sheer concentration  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The fruit comes from ungrafted old-vine vineyards on sandy–gravel soils at ~750 m elevation. This high-altitude, continental climate delivers hot summers and cool nights, ensuring small berries with thick skins and intense flavor concentration  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

Post-fermentation, the wine matures in 100% new French oak—initially six months to complete malolactic fermentation, then another 16 months—totaling around 22 months of oak before bottling  .

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet-purple; aromas of blackberry, cassis, prune, licorice, violet, tobacco leaf, leather, truffle, and cedar. On the palate: rich black fruit, espresso, dark chocolate, menthol, minerals, and silky yet powerful tannins with a long, savory, and structured finish  .

Food & Wine Pairing

Perfect with grilled steak, roasted lamb, game meats like venison, truffle risotto, or aged Manchego—rich, earthy and hearty dishes match the wine’s power and complexity.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 16–18 °C in large Bordeaux glasses. Decant for 2 hours to allow the structured tannins and aromatics to evolve.

Storage and Aging Potential

Peak now through 2028–2032; with proper storage (12–14 °C, stable humidity, no light), it can develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years  .
