Distillery Background and History

The Singleton of Dufftown is produced at Dufftown Distillery, established in 1895 in Speyside, Scotland. Owned by Diageo, it’s known for crafting smooth, fruit-forward whiskies using traditional methods. Located alongside icons like Glenfiddich, its intimate scale (six stills) and Speyside terroir deliver approachable yet refined spirit expressions  .

Master Distiller and Production Philosophy

Led by Maureen Robinson under Diageo’s “Master of Malts” initiative, the team applies the “Trinity Cask Harmony” approach—carefully blending whiskies from American oak, European oak, and ex-bourbon barrels. The focus is on balance, elegance, and enhanced complexity while retaining the spirit’s Speyside freshness  .

Source of Ingredients (Grain, Water, Yeast)

Crafted from 100% Speyside malted barley. Water is drawn from local Dufftown springs, and fermentation occurs in traditional wooden washbacks using proprietary yeast. The use of high-quality regional inputs supports the whisky’s clear, fruity profile  .

Distillation Process

Double distilled in classic copper pot stills with careful spirit cuts. The process prioritizes purity and character, capturing vibrant Speyside fruit while ensuring consistency across batches .

Maturation & Cask Information

Aged for 21 years using a trinity of casks: first-fill American oak, second-fill European oak, and ex-bourbon barrels. This multi-cask aging develops depth and balance, combining honey, dried fruit, spice, and oak in a cohesive profile  .

Tasting Notes

Nose: Subtle peaches soaked in sherry, bright ginger, fresh brioche.

Palate: Treacle toffee, burnt orange peel, crunchy apple, creamy toffee, and light berries.

Finish: Long and dry, with lingering orchard fruit and oak spice  .

Food Pairing Suggestions

Best with banana cream pie, cheesecake, rabbit dishes, mild curries, and creamy cheeses—its fruity sweetness enhances both savory and dessert pairings  .

Serving Suggestions and Ideal Glassware

Serve neat or with a few drops of still water in a Glencairn or tulip glass at 15–18 °C to unveil layered aromas and flavors.

Storage and Aging Potential

Fully matured and non-chill filtered; it won’t age further in the bottle. Store upright, sealed, away from heat/light (12–16 °C). Best consumed within a few years of opening.
