Winery Background and History

Sidewood Estate, nestled in the cool-climate Adelaide Hills region of South Australia, was founded in 2004 when Owen and Cassandra Inglis recognized the area’s exceptional potential for refined, terroir-driven wines. Since then, Sidewood has crafted elegant and expressive offerings, particularly from varietals like Sauvignon Blanc, that showcase regional finesse.

Under the expertise of winemakers like Darryl Catlin, Sidewood applies precision viticulture and thoughtful winemaking—from sustainable vineyard management to cool, delicate fermentations—ensuring each vintage reflects clarity, purity, and site character.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced primarily from low-yielding blocks in Sidewood’s Charleston and Oakbank vineyards, situated within Adelaide Hills. These elevated sites benefit from cool temperatures, excellent drainage, and optimal ripening conditions that preserve bright acidity and concentrated aromatics. 

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are harvested over two weeks to ensure ideal ripeness. They are gently pressed while chilled, then undergo a long, slow cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity. 

Tasting Notes

This wine bursts with vibrant notes of lime zest, ruby grapefruit, and lychee, underpinned by subtle hints of nettle and cucumber. The palate thrills with mouthwatering flavor intensity and incredible length.  Wine Enthusiast notes a “heady perfume of kiwi fruit, lemongrass, candied pineapple, and jasmine blossom,” with a palate equally forward and harmonious.

Highly versatile, this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with shellfish, fresh vegetables, goat’s cheese, or simply enjoyed as a refreshing aperitif. 

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled between 10–12 °C in a medium-stemmed white wine glass to highlight its aromatic vibrancy and crisp texture.
