Winery Background and History
Established in 1877, Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic Burgundy négociant based in Beaune. Operating from a 14th-century cellar, the estate underwent significant revitalization after its acquisition in 2005. With substantial investments in both vineyard holdings and winemaking facilities, Remoissenet has re-emerged as a producer of high-quality wines that reflect the diverse terroirs of Burgundy.
Producer and Winemaker
Since 2005, the winemaking at Remoissenet has been led by Claudie Jobard, who brings a wealth of experience from her tenure at Maison Joseph Drouhin. Under her guidance, the estate emphasizes meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques to produce wines that express the unique characteristics of each vineyard site.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The Les Suchots vineyard is a Premier Cru site in Vosne-Romanée, situated between the Grand Cru vineyards of Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg. The vineyard’s east/southeast-facing slopes, at an altitude of approximately 750 feet, are composed of deep, fertile clay-rich soils. This terroir contributes to the production of wines with intense perfume and a suave texture, often likened to those from neighboring Grand Cru sites.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted both in the vineyard and at the cellar. Fermentation occurs using indigenous yeasts in open-top, temperature-controlled French oak vats. The wine is then aged in 228-liter French oak barrels, with 35–45% new oak, for a period that allows for optimal development. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its natural character.
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots exhibits a deep-pitched nose of smoky, spicy berry fruit, ripe plums, and loamy soil. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, rich, and layered, with firm structure and a serious construction that concludes with a long, fragrant finish. This wine will benefit from some patience to reach its full potential.
Food & Wine Pairing
This wine pairs excellently with dishes such as grilled lamb sausages, roasted chicken with herbs, and air-dried saucisson with black pepper. Its structure and aromatic complexity also complement game meats like duck or venison, as well as rich mushroom-based dishes.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve this wine at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and texture. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full bouquet and flavor profile. Use large Burgundy glasses to enhance the tasting experience.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2018 vintage has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for 10–15 years. Proper cellaring conditions—cool, dark, and with consistent temperature—will allow the wine to develop additional complexity and depth over time, revealing nuanced flavors and aromas.
