Winery Background and History

Planeta is a Sicilian family-owned winery founded in 1995, with estates across six of Sicily’s finest terroirs. Emerging at the forefront of Sicily’s wine renaissance, they prioritize sustainability, biodiversity, and indigenous grape expression. La Segreta Bianco, first crafted as the approachable flagship white, captures Sicily’s maritime essence with quality that appeals worldwide.

Producer and Wine Maker

The Planeta team is led by the third generation of the Planeta family, with agronomists and oenologists collaborating to blend native and international varietals. Winemaking is executed with scientific precision and creative freedom, ensuring La Segreta balances fresh vibrancy with regional authenticity.()

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes are sourced around the Ulmo estate in Menfi, western Sicily—characterized by Mediterranean maritime air, mineral-rich soils, and a warm climate tempered by oceanic breezes. This combination yields lively acidity and ripe, aromatic whites.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve primary fruit and freshness. Following fermentation, it’s lightly filtered and bottled young, ensuring crispness and vibrancy without oak influence.()

Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow with green hues. Aromas of white flowers, citrus (grapefruit, lemon), peach, and tropical hints such as pineapple, complemented by herbal and mineral nuances. On the palate it is balanced, juicy, and structured, with lively acidity and a clean, refreshing finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

Excellent with seafood (white-fleshed fish, fried fish), light appetizers, salads, carpaccio, and fresh cheeses. Also versatile with dishes featuring young, creative flavors and light creamy sauces.()

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled at 8–12 °C in a medium-bodied white or tulip glass to showcase its aromatic profile. Gentle swirling helps release floral and citrus aromas.()

Storage and Aging Potential

Consume young to retain freshness—within 1–3 years. Under ideal cellaring conditions (10–12 °C, stable environment), it may age gracefully through 2027 without losing its aromatic appeal.()

Grape Varietals & percentage used

Approximately 40 % Grecanico, 20 % Chardonnay, 20 % Grillo, and 20 % Viognier (some versions include Sauvignon Blanc in minor proportion).
