Winery Background and History

Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët in Épernay, Moët & Chandon became one of the region’s most prominent Champagne houses. It pioneered vintage Champagne with its first Grand Vintage in 1842 and introduced the Impérial line in the 1860s. Over the centuries, the house has grown its vineyard holdings to over 1,190 ha, exporting millions of bottles annually. Part of LVMH since 1987, Moët & Chandon continues blending tradition and innovation in its globally recognized cuvées including this large-format Impérial.

Producer and Wine Maker

Cellar Master Benoît Gouez leads a dedicated tasting committee, selecting and blending over 100 base and reserve wines each year. They achieve the classic Impérial style by combining expressive fruitiness with refined creaminess. For the large-format Jeroboam, this meticulous process helps preserve freshness and enhances the wine’s textural depth during extended maturation.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes are sourced from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards across Champagne’s sub-regions: Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims, Pinot Meunier from Vallée de la Marne, and Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs. Chalky soils, cool maritime influences, and marked diurnal temperature swings produce grapes with high acidity, mineral purity, and varietal clarity ideal for consistent non-vintage blending.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Each parcel undergoes controlled fermentation in stainless steel, with 5–10 % undergoing oak maturation for added texture. The blend includes approximately 20–30 % reserve wines to maintain style consistency. Secondary fermentation occurs in-bottle, followed by at least 24 months on lees. Dosage is approximately 9–10 g/L, balancing freshness and richness.

Tasting notes

Golden straw hue with fine, persistent mousse. Aromas of green apple, pear, yellow peach, brioche, toasted nuts, and citrus blossom. The palate is creamy yet crisp, offering flavors of white peach, biscuit, salted almond, dried pineapple, and lemon peel, with a subtle smoky-mineral finish and balanced tension.

Food & Wine Pairing

Ideal as an aperitif or with shellfish (oysters, crab, lobster), sushi, white meats, creamy poultry dishes, and soft cheeses. The wine’s refined texture and vibrant acidity make it versatile alongside fresh vegetables, mild seasoning, and lightly spiced fare.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve the Jeroboam chilled slowly to 8–10 °C. Use large tulip or white-wine glasses to concentrate aromas while preserving effervescence. No decanting is needed; gentle swirling will enhance bouquet and mousse.

Storage and Aging Potential

When cellared at 9–12 °C with 70–80 % humidity and no light, this 1.5 L bottling matures gracefully for 5–8 years. Over time, it evolves tertiary notes of honey, brioche, almonds, and pastry while retaining acidity and elegance.
