Winery Background and History
Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët in Épernay, Moët & Chandon is now a pillar of the LVMH group and globally renowned for its premium Champagne. The Grand Vintage Rosé line is only produced in exceptional years, blending tradition and innovation. The 2015 edition, the 44th vintage Rosé, showcases the house’s mastery in capturing both power and finesse through its savoir-faire and vast reserve-wine library.
Producer and Wine Maker
Crafted under Cellar Master Benoît Gouez, the 2015 Rosé is a blend of Grand and Premier Cru fruit, meticulously assembled after years of cellar aging. Gouez prioritised phenolic ripeness and harmonious balance in 2015’s hot vintage, achieving a dosage of just 5 g/L.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Grapes are sourced from Champagne’s top terroirs in Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs. The hot and sunny 2015 growing season delivered concentrated fruit with high acidity maintained by cool nights and chalk soils — ideal conditions for expressive vintage Rosé.
Vinification & Aging Methods
The multi-variety blend (≈52% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay, 21% Meunier) includes 14% still red wine for colour and structure. After primary fermentation in stainless steel and oak (for portions), the blend aged at least six years on lees, followed by six months post-disgorgement in bottle, with a low dosage of 5 g/L.
Tasting Notes
Coral-pink with metallic sheen and delicate mousse. Aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, rose petal, cinnamon, and garrigue, flowing into a luscious palate with plum skin, cranberry, grapefruit zest, toasted almond, oyster shell, and chalky minerality. The finish is long, silky, spicy, and vivacious.
Food & Wine Pairing
Pairs exquisitely with white meats, oily or grilled fish, seafood (sushi, oysters, crab), light game, and fruit-based desserts. Its spiced red fruit profile and structural depth elevate gourmet dishes. ()
Service Methods and Temperatures
Chill to 8–10 °C and serve in tulip-shaped or large white-wine glasses to showcase aromatic complexity and mousse. No decanting is required; a gentle swirl enriches the bouquet.
Storage and Aging Potential
Cellaring at 9–12 °C with stable humidity and darkness allows the wine to evolve over 10–15 years, gradually revealing tertiary notes of dried fruit, honey, and spice.
