Winery Background and History

Marqués de Riscal, founded in 1858 in Rioja, is one of Spain’s oldest and most respected wineries, celebrated for pioneering Spanish winemaking and bold architecture. In the 1970s, the estate introduced Sauvignon Blanc to the Rueda region, and from 2018 onward all estate vineyards have been certified organic. This reflects their commitment to sustainable viticulture and preserving terroir expression.

Producer and Wine Maker

The winery’s in-house winemakers oversee this organically farmed Sauvignon Blanc in Rueda. They emphasize minimal intervention, using low sulfur and native yeast fermentations to enhance varietal purity, clarity, and a genuine sense of place.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes are sourced from estate-owned vineyards in Castilla y León under the Rueda DO, averaging over 25 years in age. The region’s continental climate—hot days, cool nights—combined with organic soil management, supports aromatic intensity, balanced acidity, and mineral finesse.

Vinification & Aging Methods

After harvest, grapes undergo cold maceration. The must is clarified, followed by slow fermentation at 13–15 °C to preserve aromas. Post-fermentation, the wine ages on fine lees before bottling, adding mouthfeel and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow with green highlights; aromas of complex fresh grass, citrus fruits, pineapple, and melon over a mineral base. The palate is fresh, aromatic, smooth, and balanced with a clean, long finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

Ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, white meats, oily fish, risottos, foie gras, vegetables, soft cheeses, and white fish.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled between 8–10 °C to highlight freshness and aromatics.

Storage and Aging Potential

Drink now through approximately 4 years from vintage. With good structure and acidity, it may hold well in the near term.
