Winery Background and History
Founded in 1978 by Roland Lavantureux, the domaine is now helmed by his sons, Arnaud and David. Situated in Lignorelles, Chablis, they have elevated the estate’s reputation by producing wines that reflect both tradition and innovation. Their commitment to expressing the unique terroir of Chablis has garnered international acclaim.
Producer and Winemaker
Arnaud Lavantureux oversees the winemaking process, emphasizing minimal intervention to let the vineyard’s character shine. The family’s approach combines traditional techniques with modern precision, resulting in wines that are both expressive and refined.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The Vauprin vineyard, located on a steep, south-facing slope in Lignorelles, is one of the highest-altitude sites in Chablis. Planted with 25- to 45-year-old vines over 3 hectares, the soils are rich in Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, contributing to the wine’s distinctive minerality. The 2022 vintage benefited from favorable conditions, yielding grapes with exceptional balance and concentration.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes aging in a combination of 50% stainless steel tanks and 50% 228L French oak barrels (2 to 5 years old) for 10 months. This method preserves the wine’s freshness while adding subtle complexity.
Tasting Notes
The 2022 Vauprin Chablis exhibits a luminous pale yellow hue. The nose offers ripe fruit aromas with fine toasted notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and intense, showcasing flavors of lemon zest, green apple, and a touch of vanilla, culminating in a long, mineral-driven finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Chablis pairs excellently with seafood, foie gras, poultry with mushrooms, grilled fish, and creamy cheeses. Its vibrant acidity and minerality complement rich and savory dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F) in medium-sized white wine glasses to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and balance. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after opening can enhance its bouquet.
Storage and Aging Potential
Store bottles in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity. The 2022 vintage can be enjoyed now for its vibrant freshness but also has the potential to age gracefully over the next 5 to 7 years, developing additional complexity and nuanced characteristics.
