Winery Background and History
Krug, founded in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug in Reims, remains a prestigious family-influenced Champagne house under LVMH ownership. Renowned for its commitment to blending excellence and long aging on lees, Krug pioneered non-vintage blending. In 1976, the fifth-generation Krugs introduced Krug Rosé, bringing a rosé expression to their lineup, embodying richness, complexity, and elegance consistent with the House’s philosophy.
Producer and Wine Maker
Krug Rosé is crafted by Krug’s cellar team led by Cellar Master Julie Cavil alongside Olivier Krug, Eric Lebel, Raphaele Leon-Grillon, and Laurent Halbin. This tasting committee selects hundreds of base and reserve wines, applying blind tasting protocols to achieve each Edition’s distinct character.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Hand-selected base wines come from prime vineyards across Champagne crus, including Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne. Soils are predominantly chalk, with a cool maritime climate and marked diurnal variation ensuring refined acidity and freshness in the blend.
Vinification & Aging Methods
White base musts are fermented in seasoned oak casks, then blended with still Pinot Noir macerated wine. The final blend comprises up to 70+ individual wines, including about 30–40% reserve wines, aged a minimum of five years on lees before disgorgement.()
Tasting notes
Bright salmon-pink color. Aromas of red fruit salad (raspberries, strawberries, cherries), orchard blossom, delicate spices, ginger, and kumquat. Palate delivers lush red berries, citrus peel, toasted coconut, Marcona almond, and subtle saline minerality, with a seamless cashmere mousse and lengthy, refreshing finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
An exceptional gastronomic Champagne that complements anchovies, shellfish, sashimi, rich foie gras, lamb, game, venison, and white meats with spice. Not typically paired with dessert, except very savory dishes. It also elevates lighter fare like grilled fish, vegetable quiche, and tacos.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled between 9–12 °C in a tulip- or white‑wine glass crafted by Riedel to highlight its aromatic nuance and mousse. No decanting required; gentle swirling enhances aromatic freshness.
Storage and Aging Potential
Best enjoyed now through at least 2034. When stored at stable temperatures (9–12 °C), with humidity and light control, it continues to develop complexity and elegance over the next 10+ years.
Grape Varietals & percentage used
Approximately 44 % Pinot Noir (incl. ~11 % macerated), ~30 % Chardonnay, ~26 % Pinot Meunier.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
12.5 % ABV
