Winery Background and History

Founded in 1843 by Johann‑Joseph Krug in Reims, Champagne Krug is part of LVMH and revered for its artisanal house style. Krug Rosé was first introduced in 1983 as a bold, gastronomic NV rosé blend, marrying cellar-aged reserve wines and a skin-fermented Pinot Noir component to create depth and structure  .

Producer and Wine Maker

Cellar Master Julie Cavil, Olivier Krug, and the tasting committee oversee the Rosé NV blend. A portion of the wine is made via red wine vinification of Pinot Noir, adding color and structure. The final blend draws from multiple vintages and carefully selected reserve wines  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Grapes are sourced from Krug’s Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across Champagne, including Aÿ (for the red component from Pinot Noir). Vineyards experience classic continental conditions—cool nights and warm days—on a mix of chalk and limestone soils, contributing freshness and aromatic precision  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

  • Primary fermentation occurs in small oak casks for part of the blend.

  • Skin-fermentation of Pinot Noir provides color and texture.

  • The wine matures at minimum 5 years on lees in Krug’s Reims cellars before disgorgement—creating complexity and depth  .

Tasting Notes

Onion-skin pink with a pale golden rim. Aromas of red berries, rose petals, spices (cinnamon), pastry, and honeyed citrus. The palate offers dried fig, apricot, mandarin peel, grilled nuts, and a creamy yet precise texture. Mineral drive and fine mousse lead to a persistent and elegant finish  .

Food & Wine Pairing

Enjoy on its own or pair with foie gras, lamb, venison, anchovies, spicy dishes, grilled seafood, sushi, shellfish, or light game—its aromatic breadth and structure complement diverse cuisines  .

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve well-chilled at 8–10 °C in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass. Allow a few moments after pouring; decanting not required  .

Storage and Aging Potential

NV release is best enjoyed while fresh. Given Krug’s cellar-aged style, peak drinking spans now until ~2035–2040 if stored properly (9–12 °C, away from light)  .

Grape Varietals & percentage used

A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier—the NV rosé includes a portion of Pinot Noir red wine from Aÿ. Specific percentages are not disclosed, but typical blend is ~58% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, and 17% Meunier  .

ABV (Alcohol by Volume)

12.5 % ABV typical of NV Champagne  .
