Jean Marie Fourrier Vigne Comte de Chapelle Volnay VV 2022
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Volume: 750ml
Winery Background and History:
Jean‑Marie Fourrier is a fourth‑generation vigneron from Gevrey‑Chambertin who assumed control of the family domaine in 1994. Known for a near‑zero intervention philosophy and severe pruning, he produces terroir‑focused wines from old vines across famous Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits appellations, establishing a reputation for depth, clarity and authenticity that resonates with Burgundy purists.
Producer and Wine Maker:
Fourrier oversees from pruning to bottling. The Volnay VV is hand‑harvested, fully destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open‑top vats. After gentle punch‑downs it matures for roughly 12–16 months in neutral oak barrels, bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve purity of fruit and texture.
Vineyards and Micro Climate:
Sourced from old vines (60–100 years) in the Volnay side of the Comte de Chapelle vineyard on clay‑limestone soils at moderate elevation. With southeast exposure, the plot benefits from balanced continental climate—warm days, cool nights—for ripe yet vivacious Pinot Noir in 2022.
Vinification & Aging Methods:
After destemming, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in open vats with manual punch‑downs. It ages 12–16 months in neutral oak barrels, then is bottled unfined and unfiltered, allowing precise expression of site with minimal oak influence.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet hue. The nose reveals violet florals, bramble berry, wild blueberry, clove, dried mint and tea leaves. The palate is medium‑bodied with vibrant red fruit, nervy acidity and firm yet elegant tannins, finishing long with savory earth and mineral grace.
Food & Wine Pairing:
Pairs beautifully with roast duck, game‑bird dishes (pheasant, venison), mushroom ragout, aged Comté or Gruyère cheese and creamy poultry preparations. Its structured elegance complements earthy and savory flavors.
Service Methods and Temperatures:
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Burgundy‑style glass to highlight aromatics. Decant for 30–45 minutes to allow the wine to open and harmonize tannins and texture.
Storage and Aging Potential:
Cellar at 12 °C with 70 % humidity. The wine will evolve gracefully through 2038, developing tertiary layers of leather, tobacco and forest floor while preserving bright fruit and tension.
