Jean Marie Fourrier Vigne Comte de Chapelle Pommard Saussilles 1er Cru VV 2022
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Volume: 750ml
Winery Background and History:
Jean‑Marie Fourrier is a fourth-generation vigneron based in Gevrey‑Chambertin who took over his family domaine in 1994. His philosophy of minimal intervention and vineyard-first approach has earned global recognition. He farms low-yield, old-vine plots across prestigious appellations, crafting wines of precision and depth that captivate Pinot Noir enthusiasts.
Producer and Wine Maker:
Fourrier manages every stage personally, from careful pruning and harvest to vinification and bottling. This Pommard Saussilles is hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and spontaneously fermented in small open-top vats. Aging occurs in a blend of older and neutral oak barrels for roughly 12–16 months, with no fining or filtration applied.
Vineyards and Micro Climate:
The Saussilles vineyard is situated atop clay-limestone slopes in Pommard at around 250–300 m elevation. Enjoying southern exposure and mild continental climate, the old vines produce fruit with concentrated red berry flavors and earthy complexity. The 2022 vintage featured mild spring, warm summer, and cool nights, preserving vibrancy and structure.
Vinification & Aging Methods:
Following hand-picking and destemming, the grapes undergo native-yeast fermentation in open vats. Regular punch-downs extract balanced tannins. The wine ages in primarily neutral oak for 12–16 months, then is bottled unfined and unfiltered to retain textural integrity and terroir clarity.
Tasting Notes:
This wine exhibits deep ruby color. Expect aromas of wild raspberry, cherry, forest herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied with firm yet polished tannins, bright acidity, vibrant red fruit, layers of earth and tea leaves, culminating in a long, savory finish.
Food & Wine Pairing:
Ideal with roast duck, game birds, veal, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté. Its refined tannins and vibrant acidity complement protein-rich dishes and earthy flavors, offering elegance without heaviness.
Service Methods and Temperatures:
Serve at 16–17 °C in Burgundy-style glasses to highlight aromatics and balance. Decanting for about 30 minutes enhances subtle tertiary layers and smooths tannins.
Storage and Aging Potential:
Under proper cellar conditions (12 °C, 70 % humidity), this wine will evolve gracefully through 2038–2042, gaining depth—earth, forest floor, dried fruit, and spice—while preserving its clear fruit expression.
