Winery Background and History
Henri Giraud is a family‑owned Champagne house in Aÿ dating to the 17th century. The estate is renowned for biodynamic viticulture and fermenting wines in Argonne oak barrels sourced from the Argonne forest. The Argonne series—first released in 2002—showcases extreme terroir expression. Each vintage is produced in limited quantities and elegantly packaged in wooden gift boxes made from the same oak used for fermentation .
Producer and Wine Maker
Under the guidance of Claude Giraud and cellar‑master Sébastien Le Golvet, the 2015 vintage base wines were fermented in 100% new Argonne oak barrels. The cuvée is blended with solera reserve wines and crafted with minimal sulfur to capture purity of expression .
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Grapes come exclusively from Grand Cru Aÿ vineyards on southeast‑facing chalk slopes beside the Marne River. The cool continental climate with diurnal variation supports slow, balanced ripening. Biodynamic farming practices ensure fruit purity and structure .
Vinification & Aging Methods
Fermentation and aging occurred over approximately nine to twelve months in new Argonne oak barrels. The wine then matured on lees, incorporating solera reserve, before disgorgement and gift‑box presentation .
