Winery Background and History
Domaine Henri Bourgeois, located in Chavignol within the Sancerre appellation of France’s Loire Valley, has been a family-run estate for ten generations. Over the years, the Bourgeois family has dedicated itself to cultivating Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, producing wines that authentically reflect the diverse terroirs of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Their unwavering commitment to quality and tradition has earned them a distinguished reputation in the wine industry.
Producer and Winemaker
The estate remains under the stewardship of the Bourgeois family, who seamlessly blend time-honored techniques with contemporary innovations. Their philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir to be prominently expressed in each bottle. This dedication has garnered international acclaim for their wines.
Vineyards and Microclimate
“La Bourgeoise” is crafted from old Sauvignon Blanc vines rooted in flinty slopes historically known as “Les Bourgeoises,” first cultivated by the monks of Saint-Satur. These flinty soils impart pronounced minerality and complexity to the wine. The cool, continental climate of the Loire Valley, influenced by the nearby Loire River, ensures a prolonged growing season, allowing the grapes to develop depth while maintaining vibrant acidity.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are directly pressed. After cold settling, fermentation occurs partially in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks and partially in French oak barrels sourced from the renowned Tronçais forest. The wine is then patiently aged for 7 to 8 months on its fine lees in oak barrels, with periodic hand stirring (bâtonnage) to enhance complexity and texture before bottling.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
Approximately 13%.
Tasting Notes

On the palate, it is rich in fruit, full-bodied, and well-balanced, reminiscent of the Sauvignon flower and grape. The flavor’s richness and intensity linger harmoniously, culminating in a long finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Sancerre pairs excellently with lightly spiced dishes and fish preparations. A particularly recommended pairing is John Dory roasted with fennel. As the wine matures, it becomes a perfect match for farm hen in truffle sauce, highlighting its evolving complexity.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 10-12°C (50-54°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic profile and structure. Utilizing a white wine glass will concentrate the aromas, enhancing the tasting experience.
