Distillery Background and History
Glenmorangie Distillery, founded in 1843 in Tain, Ross‑shire, is the most awarded Highland distillery, known for its towering stills and innovative use of diverse casks. Now part of LVMH, it combines traditional craftsmanship with cask experimentation to create rich and elegant single malts .
Master Distiller and Production Philosophy
Under Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, Nectar D’Or was inspired by French patisserie techniques. It redefines sweet finishes with dessert-wine casks and celebrates rich, balanced complexity through meticulous cask selection .
Source of Ingredients (Grain, Water, Yeast)
Crafted from 100 % Highland-grown malted barley and pure Tarlogie Spring water, using proprietary yeast strains to maintain signature fruity and floral Highland character .
Distillation Process
Distilled in Glenmorangie’s iconic 26‑ft copper pot stills with tall necks, fostering a light, aromatic spirit. Non-chill filtered to deliver full mouthfeel and aromatic depth .
Maturation & Cask Information
Matured for ten years in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, then finished for two years in hand-selected Sauternes (and occasionally other sweet wine) French barriques. This imparts honeyed warmth, dessert spice, and elegant sugar richness .
