Winery Background and History

Nestled in Montalcino, Tenuta CastelGiocondo is one of the most historic estates of the Frescobaldi family, whose winemaking legacy spans centuries. Their Brunello di Montalcino embodies a fine balance of regional tradition and refined craftsmanship—offering expressive elegance rooted in both terroir and heritage.

Producer and Winemaker

Crafted by Frescobaldi’s expert team, this Brunello benefits from meticulous vineyard selection, careful vinification, and extensive barrel aging to highlight Sangiovese’s depth and expression.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The vineyards are located at elevations of 300–400 m with southwest exposure and well-drained soils. Conditions provide ideal ripening—full concentrations of red and dark fruit, with floral vibrancy and structural balance.

Vinification & Aging Methods

After hand-harvest and rigorous sorting, grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks with frequent pump-overs. The wine then matures for approximately 30 months in large wooden barrels, enhancing complexity and structure.

Tasting Notes

A dense expression—aromas of dark fruit, dried spice, redwood, and cured tobacco lead the profile. The palate shows savory depth with dark berries and polished tannins, allowing relatively early enjoyment.

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs beautifully with hearty, savory dishes such as grilled red meats, game, mature cheeses, and rich pasta—great with traditional Tuscan cuisine.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 18–20 °C in a large red wine glass. A 30–60 minutes decant is recommended to allow aromas and texture to open.

Storage and Aging Potential

With smooth tannins and concentration, the 2019 vintage is drinking well now but has the structure to age gracefully through 2042 and beyond.

Grape Varietals & percentage used

100 % Sangiovese, as required by Brunello di Montalcino DOCG regulations.
