Winery Background and History

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley has remained a family-owned estate for seven generations. With over 125 hectares of vineyards, it is one of the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy. The domaine’s holdings include prestigious Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Under the leadership of Erwan Faiveley since 2005, the estate has embraced sustainable viticulture and modernized winemaking techniques, enhancing the quality and reputation of its wines.

Producer and Winemaker

Erwan Faiveley, representing the seventh generation of the Faiveley family, has been instrumental in elevating the estate’s stature. Collaborating with Technical Director Jérôme Flous, the team emphasizes precision in both vineyard management and winemaking. Their approach focuses on minimal intervention, allowing each wine to express its unique origin. The duo’s dedication to quality and innovation ensures that Domaine Faiveley’s wines consistently showcase elegance, depth, and a true sense of place.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The Blagny Premier Cru vineyard is situated on the border between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. This vineyard benefits from a favorable microclimate, with optimal sun exposure and well-drained limestone soils, contributing to the production of wines with depth, structure, and finesse. The vineyard’s unique terroir imparts a distinctive minerality and complexity to the wines, making it one of the most esteemed sites in Meursault.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo meticulous sorting to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak to enhance complexity. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, less than one-third of which are new, with regular stirring to enhance texture and depth. This careful vinification process aims to highlight the wine’s elegance and the vineyard’s unique expression.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Blagny exhibits a brilliant pale yellow color. The nose offers attractive aromas of white and yellow fruits mixed with light woody notes. On the palate, the wine has a round and full attack before the vanilla and toasty tastes reveal themselves. It has good, long-lasting aromas, and the finish is slightly acidic.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with seafood dishes such as grilled scallops, lobster, or oysters. Its crisp acidity and mineral backbone complement creamy sauces and rich textures, making it an excellent match for poultry dishes like roast chicken or turkey. For cheese pairings, consider soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert to enhance the wine’s subtle complexity.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve this wine chilled at 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F) in a white wine glass to fully appreciate its aromatic nuances. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after opening can enhance its expressive qualities. Enjoy within the next few years to experience its fresh and vibrant character.

Storage and Aging Potential

Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity. While the 2022 vintage is approachable in its youth, it possesses the structure and acidity to age gracefully for 5 to 7 years. Over time, the wine will develop additional complexity, with tertiary notes of honey and toasted nuts emerging.
