Winery Background and History

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley has remained a family-owned estate for seven generations. Over nearly two centuries, the domaine has expanded its holdings to approximately 125 hectares, making it one of Burgundy’s largest vineyard owners. Their extensive portfolio includes prestigious Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise. The Faiveley family’s commitment to traditional winemaking and respect for terroir has solidified their reputation as one of Burgundy’s most esteemed producers.

Producer and Winemaker

Currently led by Erwan Faiveley, the domaine combines traditional practices with modern techniques to craft wines that reflect the unique characteristics of each vineyard. The winemaking team emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the purity of the fruit and the nuances of the terroir to shine through. Their meticulous approach ensures consistency and quality across their diverse range of wines.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The grapes for the 2022 Bourgogne Blanc are sourced from vineyards in both the Côte Chalonnaise and Côte d’Or regions. These areas are characterized by limestone-rich soils and a continental climate, providing ideal conditions for cultivating Chardonnay. The combination of varied terroirs contributes to the wine’s complexity, balancing freshness with depth.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The 2022 vintage underwent fermentation primarily in French oak barrels, with a smaller portion fermented in stainless steel tanks. This approach imparts subtle oak nuances while preserving the wine’s vibrant fruit character. Following fermentation, the wine was aged on its lees for 8 to 10 months, enhancing its texture and complexity.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Domaine Faiveley Bourgogne Blanc displays a brilliant pale greenish-yellow hue. The expressive nose reveals aromas of white flowers, candied lemon, and fresh pomelo. On the palate, the wine is bold and generous, offering a harmonious balance of discrete fruit, flinty minerality, and fine tannins. The medium-bodied structure leads to a remarkable mineral-driven finish, showcasing the wine’s elegance and depth.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Bourgogne Blanc pairs excellently with a variety of dishes, including baked brie, fried calamari, and cod with hollandaise sauce. Its crisp acidity and citrus notes complement fresh salads, goat cheese, and dishes featuring herbs like basil and cilantro. The wine’s textural complexity also allows it to pair well with lightly spiced Asian cuisine and vegetarian dishes.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve the wine well-chilled at 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F) in medium-sized white wine glasses to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and balance. No decanting is necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after opening can enhance its bouquet.

Storage and Aging Potential

Store bottles in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity. The 2022 vintage is best enjoyed within 2 to 3 years of release to capture its vibrant freshness and aromatic intensity. While it can be consumed immediately, proper storage will maintain its quality over the short term.
