Winery Background and History
Egly‑Ouriet is a distinguished grower Champagne house founded in 1930 by merging Egly and Ouriet vineyards in Ambonnay, Montagne de Reims. The estate is now led by fourth-generation winemaker Francis Egly, who elevated the domaine’s reputation through precision farming, old-vine plots, and extended lees aging. Recognized as a benchmark in grower Champagne, Egly‑Ouriet crafts powerful, terroir-driven wines of Burgundian finesse and lasting depth.
Producer and Wine Maker
Francis Egly champions terroir expression with minimal intervention: hand-harvesting, indigenous yeast fermentations, extended barrel and lees aging, and very low dosage. The Rosé Grand Cru is a blend of estate-grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a small measure of red wine for color and structure—exemplifying his mastery of balance and purity.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
Grapes are sourced from Ambonnay (predominantly), Bouzy, and Verzenay Grand Cru plots—championing old-vine, hillside terroirs with chalky limestone soils. The Grand Cru vineyards provide the structural backbone and minerality, while the Rosé incorporates a small amount of red wine from Ambonnay to deepen complexity.
Vinification & Aging Methods
This NV Rosé is based on the 2019 vintage, complemented by reserve wines from 2018 and 2017. It comprises approximately 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, including around 5% red wine from Ambonnay. Indigenous yeast fermentation occurs in older oak barrels (about 10% new), and the wine ages on the lees for roughly 48 months before disgorgement. Dosage remains ultra-low at around 2 g/L.
Tasting Notes
The wine exhibits a pale salmon-pink hue and rich depth. Aromas of raspberries, peach, nectarine, and saline brightness emerge on the nose. The palate is powerful and alluring, revealing orange oil, grapefruit citrus, and a clean, stony finish with vibrant tension. Its structure balances ripeness with finesse, made for both now and long ageing.
Food & Wine Pairing
Elegant with refined seafood—think oysters, lobster, or sashimi—as well as smoked fish, charcuterie, and delicate poultry dishes. Its purity, minerality, and rosé profile make it exceptionally versatile.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled between 8–10 °C in tulip-shaped or fine sparkling wine glasses to preserve aromatic expression, mousse finesse, and layered flavors.
Storage and Aging Potential
Although immediately captivating, this Extra Brut Rosé has excellent aging potential. Critics suggest it will evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years, with the structure to develop complexity while retaining energy.

70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, plus ~5% still red wine from Ambonnay for color depth.
