Winery Background and History

Established in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch, grandson of Henry Leroy (founder of Maison Leroy), Domaine Prieuré Roch spans approximately 14 hectares along the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, France. The estate is renowned for its commitment to organic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking, aiming to authentically express the unique terroirs of its various climats.

Producer and Winemaker

Following the passing of Henry-Frédéric Roch in November 2018, the domaine continues to uphold his philosophy under the guidance of a dedicated team, maintaining the estate’s reputation for producing distinctive and expressive wines.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The “Vieilles Vignes” (Old Vines) designation indicates that the Pinot Noir grapes used for this wine are sourced from some of the oldest vines within the Clos des Corvées vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges. These mature vines contribute to the wine’s depth and complexity. The region’s continental climate, characterized by warm summers and cool winters, along with limestone-rich soils, provides ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

While specific tasting notes for the 2022 vintage are limited, previous vintages of this wine have been described as having a bouquet of ripe cherries with spicy undertones reminiscent of cinnamon, akin to a Christmas cake. On the palate, the wine typically exhibits a rich, full-bodied profile with well-integrated tannins, offering depth and complexity.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs excellently with dishes such as roasted meats, game, and mushroom-based recipes. Its structure and flavor profile complement these foods, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Service Methods and Temperatures

For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at a temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for about 30 minutes before serving can help open up the aromas and flavors, especially in its youth.

Storage and Aging Potential

The 2022 vintage has the potential to develop additional complexity over the next 10 to 15 years. Proper cellaring conditions—consistent temperature, moderate humidity, and protection from light—will facilitate this development.
