Winery Background and History

Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson, located in Rully within Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, was established in 1946 by Henri Jacqueson. Initially focusing on red wines, the estate gained recognition in the late 1970s. Over time, the domaine expanded its holdings, acquiring Chardonnay vineyards and diversifying its portfolio. Today, managed by Paul Jacqueson and his daughter Marie, the estate encompasses approximately 12 hectares, producing around 100,000 bottles annually. Their commitment to quality and terroir expression has solidified their reputation in the region.

Producer and Wine Maker

Paul Jacqueson, having taken over from his father Henri, has been instrumental in the estate’s growth and reputation. His daughter, Marie, joined the domaine in 2006, bringing a fresh perspective while upholding traditional practices. Together, they emphasize meticulous vineyard management, manual harvesting, and minimal intervention in the cellar to produce wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their terroirs.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Rully Blanc 2021 is sourced from three distinct parcels: La Crée, Fromanges (with 25-year-old vines), and La Barre (with 35-year-old vines). These sites, with easterly exposures, are characterized by brown calcareous soils, providing excellent drainage and mineral complexity. The region’s continental climate, marked by warm summers and cool winters, ensures optimal ripening conditions for Chardonnay, resulting in wines with balance and finesse.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurs in oak barrels, with 15% being new oak, allowing for subtle oak integration without overpowering the fruit. The wine undergoes aging for 12 months in these barrels, promoting complexity and texture while preserving the wine’s freshness and varietal character.

Tasting notes

The 2021 Rully Blanc presents a harmonious blend of ripe fruit and subtle oak. Aromas of golden apple, citrus, and white flowers lead to a palate that is round yet refreshing. Notes of butter and vanilla from the oak aging complement the fruit, resulting in a wine that is both elegant and expressive.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its richness complements seafood like scallops and lobster, while its acidity balances creamy poultry dishes. It also pairs well with soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, and can enhance vegetarian dishes featuring mushrooms or root vegetables.

Service Methods and Temperatures

  • Serving Temperature: 12–14°C (54–57°F)

  • Decanting: Not necessary, but allowing the wine to breathe for 15–30 minutes can enhance its aromatic profile.

Storage and Aging Potential

While the 2021 Rully Blanc is approachable now, it possesses the structure to age gracefully over the next 5–7 years. With time, the wine will develop additional complexity, showcasing tertiary notes of honey and toasted nuts, enhancing its depth and character.
