Winery Background and History

Domaine Huet, established in 1928 by Victor and Gaston Huet in Vouvray, Loire Valley, France, is renowned for its exceptional Chenin Blanc wines. The estate spans 35 hectares across three vineyards: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg. Pioneering biodynamic viticulture since 1990, Domaine Huet emphasizes sustainable practices and minimal intervention, producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of each vineyard. Their commitment to quality has positioned them as a benchmark producer in the region.

Producer and Winemaker

Under the ownership of the Hwang family since 2003, Domaine Huet continues to uphold its legacy of excellence. The winemaking team, adhering to biodynamic principles, focuses on expressing the purity and complexity of Chenin Blanc. Through meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques, they craft wines that balance richness with precision, showcasing the distinct characteristics of each vintage.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Le Haut-Lieu vineyard, encompassing 9 hectares, features deep limestone-clay soils that contribute to the wine’s richness and complexity. Situated on the Vouvray plateau, the vineyard benefits from a temperate continental climate, with the Loire River moderating temperatures and providing morning mists conducive to noble rot development. These conditions are ideal for producing sweet wines with vibrant acidity and aging potential.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are hand-harvested in multiple passes to select optimally ripe fruit. After gentle pressing, the juice undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts in a combination of old oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on its lees for approximately six months, enhancing its texture and complexity. This approach preserves the wine’s freshness while allowing the development of nuanced flavors.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux presents a golden-yellow hue. Aromas of ripe stone fruits, honey, white flowers, and subtle minerality emerge on the nose. The palate is lush and sweet, balanced by vibrant acidity, with flavors of candied citrus, peach, and quince. Notes of honeycomb and ginger add depth, leading to a long, complex finish with a chalky, mineral edge.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, and fruit-based desserts such as tarte Tatin. Its sweetness and acidity also complement spicy Asian dishes, including Thai curries and Szechuan cuisine. For a savory option, consider pairing with roasted pork glazed with fruit compote.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and balance. Use a white wine glass with a slightly wider bowl to concentrate the bouquet and allow the wine to breathe. Decanting is not necessary but can be done to enhance the wine’s expression.

Storage and Aging Potential

Stored under optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with stable humidity—this vintage can age gracefully for several decades. Over time, it will develop deeper notes of dried fruits, honey, and nuts, adding to its complexity and allure. Collectors and enthusiasts can anticipate continued evolution and refinement with extended cellaring.
