Winery Background and History

Established in 1920, Domaine Henri Gouges is a family-run estate located in the heart of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy. Renowned for its dedication to traditional winemaking practices and sustainable viticulture, the domaine has been instrumental in elevating the reputation of Nuits-Saint-Georges wines. Today, the estate is managed by the third and fourth generations of the Gouges family.

Producer and Winemaker

The Gouges family oversees all aspects of production, maintaining a philosophy that emphasizes minimal intervention and a deep respect for the terroir. This approach ensures that each wine authentically reflects its vineyard origin.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The “Les Vaucrains” vineyard is one of the most esteemed Premier Cru sites in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Situated on a steep, south-facing slope with limestone-rich soils, it benefits from excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure. These conditions contribute to the vineyard’s ability to produce wines with remarkable structure and aging potential.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Domaine Henri Gouges employs traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a meticulous sorting process. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months. This method enhances the wine’s complexity and allows for the development of nuanced flavors.
