Winery Background and History

Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret, situated in Monthélie in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, boasts a rich heritage dating back to the early 20th century. The estate spans approximately 13 hectares, encompassing vineyards in Monthélie, Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault. Under the stewardship of Cataldina Lippa, the domaine continues to uphold traditional winemaking practices while embracing sustainable viticulture. Their commitment to quality and terroir expression has solidified their reputation among Burgundy enthusiasts.

Producer and Winemaker

Cataldina Lippa, daughter of the esteemed winemaker André Porcheret, leads the winemaking at Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret. Drawing inspiration from her father’s legacy, she emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the unique characteristics of each vineyard to shine. Her approach combines traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, resulting in wines that are both expressive and refined.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Bourgogne Rouge 2022 originates from a single plot named “Longbois” located in the commune of Volnay. This parcel, with vines averaging 40 years in age, benefits from the region’s limestone-rich soils and a temperate continental climate. These conditions contribute to the wine’s elegance, structure, and aromatic complexity, reflecting the quintessential qualities of Burgundy Pinot Noir.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo meticulous sorting to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. Post-fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a modest percentage of new oak, for approximately 12 months. This aging process imparts subtle complexity while maintaining the wine’s fresh and vibrant character.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Bourgogne Rouge presents a bright ruby hue. On the nose, it offers aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and subtle floral notes. The palate is medium-bodied, showcasing flavors of fresh red berries, a hint of spice, and a smooth, fruity finish. Its balanced acidity and fine tannins make it an approachable yet nuanced expression of Pinot Noir.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including roasted duck, veal, and game birds. Its elegance complements dishes like coq au vin, mushroom risotto, and grilled salmon. The wine’s acidity and tannic structure also make it a suitable match for aged cheeses, such as Comté or Brie de Meaux.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and texture, serve this wine at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting for 30 minutes to an hour before serving is recommended to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full bouquet and flavor profile. Use large Burgundy glasses to enhance the tasting experience, as they allow the wine’s aromas to concentrate and its flavors to unfold gracefully.

Storage and Aging Potential

The 2022 Bourgogne Rouge possesses the structure and balance to age gracefully for 5–8 years. Proper cellaring conditions—cool, dark, and with consistent temperature—will allow the wine to develop additional complexity and depth over time. As it matures, expect the emergence of tertiary aromas such as truffle, forest floor, and dried fruit, adding to its allure and sophistication.
