Winery Background and History

Domaine Chantal Lescure, established in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Machard de Gramont, is a family-owned estate located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France. Spanning approximately 19 hectares, the domaine practices organic viticulture, emphasizing minimal intervention to produce wines that authentically express the terroir of each vineyard site.

Producer and Winemaker

Following Chantal Lescure’s passing in 1996, her sons Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont took over the estate. Since 1996, winemaker François Chavériat has been at the helm, steering the domaine towards organic certification in 2009 and focusing on crafting wines that reflect their unique origins.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The “Les Vignots” vineyard is situated on the Montagne de Pommard, on the right bank of the Dheune River, at an elevation of approximately 330 meters. This south-facing slope benefits from optimal sun exposure, and the clay-marl soils contribute to the wine’s structure and minerality. The vineyard spans about 1 hectare, with vines averaging 35 years in age.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The 2021 vintage involved hand-harvesting the grapes, followed by a long fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The process included regular punch-downs and an extended maceration period of 18 to 25 days. Aging occurred in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak, to enhance complexity while preserving the wine’s fruit character.
