Winery Background and History
Established in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Machard de Gramont, Domaine Chantal Lescure is a family-owned estate located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France. Spanning approximately 19 hectares, the domaine has practiced organic viticulture since 2000 and achieved certification in 2006. Following Chantal’s passing in 1996, her sons Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont assumed management. In 2023, the estate was acquired by Jean-Philippe Girard and Eric Rousseau, with François Chavériat continuing as the head winemaker.
Producer and Winemaker
Jean-Philippe Girard, a Dijon native with a background in the wheat and flour industry, partnered with Eric Rousseau, formerly of Domaine Armand Rousseau, to acquire Domaine Chantal Lescure in 2023. François Chavériat, who has been with the domaine since 1996, remains the head winemaker, ensuring continuity in their organic and terroir-driven winemaking approach.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru vineyard is one of Burgundy’s most renowned sites. Domaine Chantal Lescure’s parcel is located in the upper part of the Clos, specifically in the lieu-dit “Montiotes Hautes.” The terroir consists of pebbly clay-limestone soils, with 50% of the vines being over 70 years old and the remaining replanted in 2011. This prime location contributes to the wine’s elegance and mineral character.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
• 100% Pinot Noir
Vinification & Aging Methods
The 2021 vintage underwent a long, slow fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 20% of which were new 500-liter barrels. This approach aims to enhance complexity while preserving the wine’s fruit character and terroir expression.

Food & Wine Pairing
This Grand Cru pairs exquisitely with a variety of dishes, including roasted duck, lamb dishes, and aged cheeses like Époisses. Its robust structure complements hearty meats, while its acidity balances rich, creamy cheeses.
Service Methods and Temperatures
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at a temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for about 30 minutes prior to serving can help open up the aromas and flavors, especially in its youth.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has the structure to develop additional complexity with 10 to 15 years of careful cellaring. Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature to preserve its quality and aging potential.
